The Denver metro area is full of places and people that bring comfort, compassion and encouragement to someone whose life has been touched by cancer — whether patient, survivor or caregiver. The following is a solid but incomplete list of metro Denver resources for those affected by cancer. Please contact Peter at peter@solvepublications.com to have a resource added to this directory. Bags of Fun-Denver Chapter Delivers bags of toys and other fun activities to children “whose health and happiness is both compromised and threatened.”

Camp Courage A no-cost camp experience to children diagnosed with cancer designed to provide them with coping skills to navigate their unique challenges. Activities include fishing, zip-lining, ropes course, archery, hiking and much more.

Colorado Kids Cancer Association Provides assistance and a comprehensive set of resources for local childhood cancer community. Serves children and young adults diagnosed with cancer, as well as their parents, siblings, and caregivers.

Heroes Forever Provides support and plans fun activities for families with children diagnosed with cancer.

HOPE Survivorship Program (Helping Oncology Patients Excel) Provides support, follow-up healthcare and healthy lifestyle recommendations for childhood cancer survivors of all ages.

Joseph’s Journey Provides wilderness experiences to children with terminal and life-threatening illnesses. Adventures include hiking, fishing, camping, hunting, climbing and more.

Kids Alive Colorado Support for children 6-16 whose parents are diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment. Provides a “secure and healthy environment in which they are free to express their feelings” while participating in activities with other children. 303-765-3883

Nighthawk Ranch A camp for childhood cancer survivors to “regain self-esteem and build hope and confidence for their future” through “fun and challenging activities, good nutrition, exposure to animals and wildlife, good camaraderie and the spiritual uplifting that nature provides.”

Roundup River Ranch A camp located in Gypsum that makes campers with serious illnesses “feel like ordinary kids” while providing medical support as needed.

Sky High Hope Camp This is a one-week annual summer camp for kids who have or who have had cancer and their siblings. It’s completely free of charge to families, and campers get to participate in typical camp activities to include rock climbing, archery, fishing, canoeing, arts & crafts, and many more activities. 720-412-0490
Teen With a Dream Aims to enrich the lives of pediatric cancer patients and their families by combating the effects of social isolation and loneliness during chemotherapy through specialized social, educational and financial programs.
There With Care Thoughtful, fundamental services for families and children facing critical illnesses. Families must be referred by their hospital social worker.

TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS

Elephants and Tea Media company that produces magazines and online content written by and for adolescent and young adult cancer patients and survivors.

Stupid Cancer National nonprofit organization that leads young adult cancer advocacy, research and support. Connects young adult cancer patients with peer groups and age-specific resources.
