The Denver metro area is full of places and people that bring comfort, compassion and encouragement to someone whose life has been touched by cancer — whether patient, survivor or caregiver. The following is a solid but incomplete list of south metro Denver resources for those affected by cancer. Please contact Peter at peter@solvepublications.com to have a resource added to this directory. For additional resources and recommendations, consult your physicians and care teams.

  1. Are there any programs that help terminal cancer patients get into housing in denver Colorado? The housing programs are difficult to get into even though I’m disabled and only receive ssdi.. The cost of living is very high here but this is where my Dr’s are.

  4. Regina Cheek says:

I was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal adenocarcinoma w brain Mets in August 2023 at UC Anchutz Medical Center. I was homeless at that time and still am. I stay in my car. I’ve completed 1 round of chemo and 1 round of SMS since my dx. The brain Mets doubled in size from August to October. I receive a retired teacher’s disability pension from California that would allow me to pay rent but I cannot find a place due to my poor credit. The Salvation Army told me in. September they would pay off the $2200 housing debt I owe a former landlord that prevents me from securing a lease but they did not do so. I broke a lease due to habitability issues in California in 2019 and that is why I owe that debt. I feel like I’m rambling here but I don’t know what to say or do. I wasn’t able to complete my chemo as the doctor prescribed that is with a take home pump because I didn’t have a safe place to stay. I can pay rent . I just need a foot in the door. If anyone can give me a lead on housing I’d be so grateful. My bf and I each have a small dog service animal. Thanks for taking time to read about my troubles. Gina
