What are preventive screens and why are they important? | by
Being a primary care physician, it is my passion and responsibility to help keep people healthy and out of the doctor’s office. Yearly visits, or annual wellness visits, are the time when your primary care doctor reviews with you your current health status, past medical history, family health history and discuss screenings that may help keep your health on track. Preventive screens are tools we use to assess and reduce one’s risk of developing diseases and are based on your age, gender, family health history and other factors. Some common examples of screenings include cancer, mental health, testing for sexually transmitted infections, tobacco, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
Prevention wouldn’t be complete if we did not discuss the importance of sleep, mental well-being, a healthy diet and regular exercise. All of these factors have been shown to help play a role in preventing and reducing your risk of developing some chronic illnesses.
Schedule your annual wellness visit to ensure that you are on the path to staying healthy.
